And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death
Light has dawned."

Futurity 2
#TheForceAwakens Google Images |
Well, it's been a little while since I've posted something substantial on my blog other than the typical posts about e-books or giveaways or sales.
But I have not been idol. I haven't been able to work on any book projects in a while, well, maybe a dithering here or there but nothing engrossing, but I have been collecting some ideas for a sequel for Futurity.
Yes, I said it. Futurity II may be coming soon.
I've been struggling with writing a #2 for a while. So, I've been researching how to produce good sequels, and what a "good" sequel means. I stumbled upon a article here where it talks about the strengths and weaknesses of sequels and what to watch out for.
google images |
Out of this article, I found three REALLY helpful things.
1. There HAS to be a need or a want for sequel from the fans. If no one wants a sequel and you write one anyway, well, you're writing for the air.
2. You need to love the characters and the story. If you don't and you're just writing something for the jingle than your fans will be sorely disappointed and your legacy as a story-teller WILL be tainted.
3. You need to have a new dynamic story for a sequel. It cannot be a bigger and better version of the first installment or same plot with different clothes. It must be different and stand on it's own, (i.e. Captain America: Winter Soldier).
google images |
So, I'm keeping these in mind as I forge forward brainstorming a sequel.
And here are my answers to each criteria.
1. More people than not have begged for a sequel via reviews or through conversation. Good sign.
2. I do love my characters so much. The reason why I even wrote them was because I truly cared for them. I may get tired of the project off and on during editing and revising but that's to be expected. Check.
3. Do I have a new, dynamic, dramatic, fun plot yet? Sorta. I have at least one villain planned for the sequel (hint: Yellow Eyes in the Dark). I have a goal that the characters have to aim for. I hope to expand on the characters Leon, Jason, Rachel, and the illusive but memorable Keira. I hope to implement romance in this installment but no promises. So I have most of the raw material needed to write a sequel. But I still need to iron out details and need inspiration.
Prayers would be appreciated as I continue this journey into the world of Futurity. It's a big world and I just have to explore it.
As always, your support is so humbling. Thank you.

Vote for FUTURITY on Goodreads for best Fiction
Every year, Goodreads.com, hosts Choice Awards for the best fiction of the year. I voted for Futurity. If you would go and vote Futurity up that would be amazing. It would really help with exposure. Here are some reviews of Futurity on Goodreads!
"Characters are vibrant and interesting, the plot pacing is excellent, and a strong thread of faith is woven into the story without distracting from the excitement. If you liked X-men, Steelheart, or other fast-paced Sci-Fi stories, you will greatly enjoy this book!" Five Star review by Matthew.
"Futurity is a fun and intriguing read! It is action packed, fast paced and held some twists I didn't see coming. I really enjoy super hero stories in general but I have found that sometimes those kind of stories can seem a bit repetitive. However, that was certainly not case with Futurity. The author did a great job in creating a very unique story that I really enjoyed! I look forward to reading any and all books this author writes. He is definitely a very talented story teller!" Five Star review by Renee P.

Andrew Klavan's Blog Post
Google Images |
Andrew Klavan has been my favorite YA author for some time now. I enjoy his witty dialogue, terse descriptions, and fast paced style.
Most of all I enjoyed, his meaningful themes in these well crafted works of art. One of my favorite novels of his is If We Survive. I reviewed it on this blog a while ago. Click here if you want to read my thoughts on it.
On Klavan's blog, I stumbled upon a article mentioning when the secular movie makers bad mouths the conservatives, it seems to affect the box office grosses of movies that they are producing. It's a very fascinating article whether you agree with one side or the other.
Here is the article.
Enjoy!

Projected Science Fiction Miniseries
From "Desktop Fun: Starships Wallpaper Collection Series 1" |
I have been debating quite a while now about perhaps writing a short story and releasing it in "episodes" week after week. It is a science fiction story. Here is synopsis:
"Awakened from cryo-sleep, Amber finds herself alone in a huge star-ship. Where did her loved ones go? Where is everyone?
The more she investigates, the more she realizes she isn't alone on the ship.
And it's hunting her.
Will she find her boyfriend and father? Or will she have no choice but to leave the ship before it all ends.
Join Amber, on a journey of fear, courage, and knowing that you are never, ever, alone."
What do you think? Would you want to read a weekly "episode" of this story? I've been writing this story for a while and I know how it ENDS. Lol.
If you are interested, please comment below this article with the single word "vote". And if I get at least a few people to say so, I'll begin "production" immediately! =)

Make an End (Flaw of Television)
The more and more I watch TV shows, the more I realize that most TV series have a fundamental flaw and strength.
They have no resolution.
The lack of resolution and tying up strings is also the TV show's strength because it dangles the imaginary ending just around the corner and entices the viewer to watch "just one more episode". And I applaud the writers and directors for creating such a crazy good way to make money while still making a gripping story that tells well.
But there is a flaw in their story telling.
When a author plans on writing a series of books, he generally will (but not always) write a basic outline of the events leading to the conclusion of the epic story. But an author hardly ever sells a book series to a publisher without having an outline, and a planned ending.
I have started a book without any idea on how it will end and just went with it. And I understand the thrill of the discovery in that. But when millions of dollars hang on the line, you'd better have a goal in mind.
When did movies or books sell the best, especially during the final installments in a series? They sold the best when there was a definite ending, and all the loving fans, clamored to read/watch the finale, knowing full well that it was the last story, and that it was going to go out with a huge bang. Think: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and numerous others.
What if you could do the same thing with a TV series? What if you could have a projected 2-5 season series that culminated into a finale that the world has never seen on TV? What if you could count down to the final season, the final episodes, and the fans wait eagerly, expectantly, and nervously for the finale they hope and fear for.
Instead of letting a series fade out of pop culture by just writing more and more episodes until the following completely hates it, why not make it a classic, a masterpiece, a legend in TV history?
Tell a story. A story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. If it doesn't have a definite ending, then it lacks one of the most fundamental parts of a plot.
It may be good style, good premise, good acting, but it can not be good story telling unless it is a complete story.

Not having a resolution is a money maker for studios and I understand that. But prolonging a TV series just because it is a hit, shows a lack of creativity to create a new show that is as new and dynamic as the last.
I challenge every story teller, screenwriter, author, playwright, actor, producer, director, and studios to take a leap and plan, and make an end.

Not All That is Dim is Shadow
Physical appearance is not everything. Not all that appears to gleam is light. And not all that is dim is shadow.
It is the deeds, the heart, and choices that define a person as good or evil.

5 Years Later . . . Where is FUTURITY Now?
Hello, again. I have to apologize for not writing more regularly but it couldn't be helped. With college, a new job, and other things, my life has grown really busy.
But I do have news!
After five years, I'm on the final leg of the publishing process. My manuscript has been approved by the printer and is getting approval for e-book formatting as well. It will be released to Amazon and Barnes & Noble who will most likely sell on their sites and possibly at stores as well.
I did find out however, that publicity will be a struggle since my package that I won from Crowdscribed doesn't include a publicity package. But I'll figure something out with God's guidance.
Now, I'm waiting for the first 25 copies of my FINISHED book to come to my doorstep. It will take around seven to ten days.
Seven days.
That's all the time that stands between me and holding my book in my hands.
I'm going to be releasing more news as it comes. And hopefully, I will be able reveal the art work of the cover to you soon.
Until then, know that the long awaited story of Futurity is around the corner . . .

Book review for "AS THE ASH FELL" by A. J. Powers
While you are waiting for more news on my book #Futurity, here is a review for a book I came across because the author found me on Goodreads and requested me to write a honest review about "As The Ash Fell".
Positive Content: Strong heroism, strong sense of right and
wrong, strong characters, male and female, unique premise, intense, exciting,
and fun. It has interesting thoughts on spirituality, morals, prayer, God, and
hope.
Negative Content: Violence/blood, a couple kisses multiple
times (though not in a suggestive context), mature elements of sexuality (men
using women etc.) but nothing is shown or described. Cannibals are depicted
though not in detail.
Movie Rating: PG-13 – for strong intense violence, thematic
elements, and suggestive material.
*Note* Some of the violence could be considered a mild “R”
to some readers. It just depends on preference and taste. The description is
minimal.
The Synopsis: Seven
years after super volcanoes filled the skies with ash and destroyed
most of civilization, Clay Whitaker is stretched to his limit. He takes
cares of orphans with his older sister in a world where kindness has
lost its meaning.
The Screamers roam at night ready to kill any who cross their path and starving people kill each other for a can of food. But all is not lost. Clay is fighting for good in a morally grey planet.
Will he succeed? Will he survive long enough to fall in love?
Only time will tell.

My Opinion: When AJ Powers asked me to review this book, I
wasn’t sure what to expect. I read the synopsis and listened to what he had to
say about it, but to be honest I was still leery, especially after the
ridiculous books I’ve read lately.
But after researching as much as I could, I decided to take
the dive, and read it.
The beginning showed a lot of promise, we are introduced to
a strong main character, foreboding hints of a savage tribe called “The
Screamers”, realistic descriptions of hunting/dressing animals, and survivals
skills.
But during all this, I noticed that Mr. Powers smoothly
switched from different points of view in a scene. Ordinarily, this is a big
no-no for authors to do. You always stay with one point of view in a given
scene to keep things from getting sporadic and confusing. But Mr. Powers is one
of the rare authors to actually do it well. It wasn’t confusing but instead
seemed to enhance the story.
Some readers may find the descriptions of survival
techniques tiresome. Also, it did seem to slow down the story but I personally thought
it helped the mood of gritty reality this story wields.
Over all, I really liked this book. The characters felt
real, the premise plausible, the story powerful. I thought the mature elements
of this book were tastefully done, especially in the sexuality department. The
author didn’t shy away from reality but is tasteful with it.
I became really attached to certain characters. And one of
them died, I might add.
The ending is very surprising, satisfying, complete, and
moving. I’m not saying that this book doesn’t have its share of edgy story
twists, action, realism, and tragedy but it has something more. I have a hard
time putting it to words.
It’s the end of the
road after a long journey, the freshness of a new adventure, and the hope that
a sun rise brings.
And that is how this
story made me feel.

My Book Edited . . .
Great news guys! I just received FUTURITY in its edited form. It looks like I'll have to revise some more (but no where near as much as last time). It's reading really smoothly. And this is what the editor said about my book. Very exciting.
This is a good adventure story for young YA with lots of dots to connect. The author does a good job with a rather complicated story.
~Jean. B.
I have a ton of things to work through, thanks to Jean. She has been so helpful. But it is encouraging to hear things like that. And I hope this quote makes you more excited about FUTURITY as it gets closer and closer to being released!

Cover Design for FUTURITY (the former X-ality)
Hi folks,
Thanks for being so patient and always ready to listen to any news. The question is: do I have news?
The answer is: YES!
I sent Futurity (formerly X-ality) in to Crowdscribed late last week. And now the editing and cover design has begun. It may take a while but I couldn't be more excited. I even have a book cover idea that will be very different from the norm. Usually book covers are bright, vivid, and eye catching. The problem is, that EVERY single book out there is like that nowadays. So what used to be eye-catching is now eye-deadening because of the barrage of colors, people, and images.
So I'm planning to do something that is outside of the norm for book covers (I hope it is anyway) and present a edgy, cool, darker cover. I couldn't more excited and am looking forward to the final unveiling of the cover design!
I'll keep you posted as I get more news to tell!
